The American Legion is the world’s oldest and largest veterans organization, made up of men and women who have served in the U.S. military during an official period of conflict. Our Mission is "To enhance the well-being of America's veterans, their families, our military, and our communities by our devotion to mutual helpfulness."
The Members of American Legion Post 147 held their first election of officers in December of 1919 under a temporary Charter. The members voted to name our Post after Pvt. John Cecil Cox. Pvt. Cox was the first Clovis, California serviceman to be killed during World War I at the Battle Belleau Wood in France. The Clovis post was granted its permanent Charter on March 3, 1921, with 24 Charter Members. Today, the Post has almost 500 members and is actively engaged in supporting our veterans, their families and our community.
